La Nuit Stella: A Night Hike by Starlight

(Le français suit l'anglais)

Have you ever gone for a night hike? You are invited to take a walk in the night – your vision of the world will change!

When the sun sets, nature comes alive. Step away from the everyday world and discover wonders of the night on a very unique experience of the Acadian region of Baie Sainte-Marie, Nova Scotia.

Starting at dusk in front of the tallest wooden church in North America, you will see the dark sky come alive with constellations, planets, and the moon. Witness the history of the stars, as Classical, Celtic and Mi’kmaw tales bring mythology and astronomy into plain view. How did Acadian colonists view the dark skies of Acadie? How did the Stella Maris – the Star of the Sea – guide Acadians in the New World?

Nature undergoes a wonderful transformation when the sun sets. During this night hike you will see how your 5 senses tune into a landscape lit by stars. We humans also change! Learn about how our bodies adapt to the night and how light pollution effects us in surprising ways.

Join Paul Lalonde for an adventure in the first UNESCO-certified Starlight Tourist Destination in North America – Acadian Skies and Mi’kmaq Lands. Paul will lead you through the woods and along the shores of Saint Mary’s Bay and you will see the world in a different light!

Meet Paul in front of the St. Mary’s Church - 1713 Highway 1 in Church Point.

The World’s Oldest Acadian History Tour

Crafts | Music | Garden Tours | Food | History | Genealogy | & More!

Group Tours – Discover Acadian History spanning more than four centuries!

We offer specialized group tours of up to 20 participants. Arrive in the oldest Acadian community in the world where you will be greeted by the descendants of the first Acadian settler themselves. The history doesn't stop there – looking to your family history? We do that! Immerse yourself in the rich history of the Acadian people through music, crafts, and food sampling! Be a part of history and visit the World’s Oldest Acadian Community.

Experience a historical talk on uses of various plants while touring the Traditional Acadian Garden on site of the Musée des Acadiens des Pubnicos.

Aromatic plants border the garden, vegetables, flowering plants and herbs grew side by side. Learn about plants that supply not only food but medicine, flavoring, dye, insect repellant, air fresheners, pain killers and cosmetics. Plants and vegetables in the garden are selected to represent the typical plants and vegetables which the Acadians would have had access to in 1653, after their arrival.

There will be a food tasting from the garden of whatever is in season at the time. In the early weeks you will be able to taste dried apples, gooseberry jams on crackers and chives as a garnish. Later we will taste carrots, beets, peas, scarlet runners, beans and edible flowers.

Enjoy a hands-on craft demonstration of quilting, rug hooking and braiding along with various other crafts. The experiences are approximately 1 ½ hours in length and are lively, interactive sessions. We encourage everyone to be involved and have fun!

Experiences must be paid for at time of booking when reserving your spot by email or by telephone: musee.acadien@ns.sympatico.ca or 1 (902) 762-3380 . In the event a class is canceled, all participants will be notified and a full refund given. A minimum of 4-6 people is required for an experience to remain scheduled. For a full refund, please cancel 24 hours prior to your reservation.

The price is $10.00 per participant, $5.00 for students up to 18 yrs and free for children up to 12 yrs.

Walk away with your authentic certificate of participation!
