Whether you're a deft DIY tailor looking for the perfect material to craft your next masterpiece, or you need a tailor to help bring your ideas to life, Designs by Nhung is a one-stop-shop for fashionistas in Yarmouth.

Nhung Nyugen studied socioeconomics in Vietnam, but wound up working as a tailor there for a time, due to the popularity of custom-fitted clothes. The real brand is Nhung herself, who can create designs for clients with a deft hand and a keen eye for detail. She's even been known to recreate an outfit from a single photo!

Tusket Island Tours - Deep Sea Fishing Charters

Deep Sea Fishing Charter

We offer a Deep sea fishing charter from the Wedgeport wharf (where our large tour boat is located) in our 25’ centre console vessel where we catch cod and haddock. This tour is dependent on the tide so times vary and the trip usually lasts 4.5 hours.

Cost is $115 tax included per person. A 2 person minimum is required. At the end of the day we fillet the fish for you so you can take it home and enjoy a delicious fish fry!

For an extra fee of $115 tax included (total, not per person) we can stop by on big Tusket island and do a catch/clean/cook with your haddock if the facilities are available that day.

(Cost on this tour is per person and you may be joined with another group if you’re a small party)

Shark Fishing Charter

New to our fleet is our 30’ offshore striper boat located in Yarmouth harbor (near Rudders restaurant). We offer a shark fishing charter with this vessel where you chum and catch shark, reel them in, tag them for DFO science purposes and release them. While chumming for shark we also bottom fish for cod and haddock that you can also keep (just like on our other charter).

Cost for shark fishing is:

  • $1200 - Full day. (9hrs)
  • $800 - Half-day (5 hrs)
  • $1200 - Evening option (6 hrs)

Evening fishes are highly recommended. We typically fish from 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm but we can alter the times a bit if you choose. The reason we recommend this package is because once the sun sets the shark are attracted to the vessel lights and are often spotted swimming around the boat and the fishing can be much better.

(Costs for shark vessel are for the full vessel & captain. You can bring anywhere from 1-7 people)

Book your experience today. Call or text Lucien at 902-740-1131 to book your fishing charter.

Old Stone Cemeteries

The Founders Cemetery, the Free Will Baptist Cemetery, and the Calvinist Baptist Cemetery in Beaver River and Port Maitland, Yarmouth County, Nova Scotia, Canada are the final resting places of many of the early settlers of Yarmouth County. Many of these people are descended from the founders of Yarmouth, and more than 2/3 are Mayflower descendants, having come to the area from Massachusetts in the 1760’s.
Old Stones is committed to the restoration and maintenance of the properties. Old Stones cemeteries are the first cemeteries in the world to be fully QR enabled. Each and every resident has been profiled and has their own webpage, which can be accessed by using your smartphone or tablet while in the cemetery looking at the grave markers. The cemeteries are registered heritage properties in the Province, and many of the residents have interesting stories still to tell, and the information here can provide much genealogical detail.

Old Stones also gives tours occasionally, and is the sponsor of the annual Port Maitland Heritage day every summer. Self-guided tours are available using the map panels or the QR code system year-round, and Old Stones holds tours routinely every year. The cemeteries are located on Highway 1, at the north end of the village of Port Maitland and into Beaver River.

GPS coordinates for the first cemetery are: 43°59’38” N.  63°8’45”W.

Music of the Bay

Music of the Bay (Music by the Sea) presents local music nightly in restaurants throughout Yarmouth & Acadian Shores all summer long. The music performed is either about the region, written by someone from the region, or reflective of the region. Music is performed in both English and French, and is a fun way to meet locals and take part in a real kitchen party!

Yarmouth & Acadian Shores is renowned for its vibrant and unique music. Many famous Canadian musicians come from this area, and musical expression is seen as a cornerstone of local culture. Maritimers are known for fiddles romancing us with soft melodies and then exploding into jigs and reels that shake up the desire to dance, sing, or pick up an instrument and join in the fun. In fact, Acadians have their own special word for this--a good party with lots of music is referred to as a "tyme."

At a Music of the Bay kitchen party, expect just that--a kitchen party. Informal performances and interactions with the audience are key, and you might even be invited to join in. The traditional and original compositions make for wonderfully diverse repertoires, which in turn keep the performances fresh and entertaining.

There is no cover charge to take in a Music of the Bay performance, but a meal must be purchased. Advanced reservations are always recommended, as performances quickly sell out.
