Experience Birchdale: Off-Grid Adventure and Lakeside Tranquility
Escape into nature and explore the magic of Birchdale Afternoons — a rare chance to spend the day at one of Nova Scotia’s most remote and storied off-grid retreats.
Located just an hour from Yarmouth at the end of an 8-mile dirt road, Birchdale sits on 58 acres at the mouth of four connected lakes, surrounded by protected wilderness. Originally built in 1911 as a hunting and fishing lodge, and later home to the Nova Nada Monastery, the property blends rich history with serene natural beauty.
Today, Birchdale features eight rustic lakeside cabins equipped with propane hot water, showers, wood stoves, and cozy simplicity — plus a main lodge for cooking and gathering. With limited generator power, no cell service, and no distractions, it’s a place to slow down, paddle the lakes, explore the trails, or simply sit by the fire and take it all in.
Come for a day. Disconnect. Reconnect.
This is Birchdale.
