Yarmouth Shark Scramble
2019 Dates - August 14th to 17th
Yarmouth Shark Scramble is a fishing tournament where teams compete to catch the largest weight of a single shark. The event is mainly for scientific research with the catch information reported to the Department of Fisheries and Oceans. Proceeds from the event are use for charity to families in need, and other non for profit organization that help our communities. The Canadian record Short Fin Mako was caught in our 2004 tournament which weighed in at 1082lbs.
Since its inaugural year in 1998, the tournament has had an average of 20 vessels and 150-200 participants. The types of sharks fished in the tournament are determined by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans. The weigh-in event is hosted on the Yarmouth waterfront behind Rudders Restaurant and Brew Pub at 96 Water Street, Yarmouth, NS.
